 Parents and Players,

Welcome to the 2010 season of Babe Ruth Baseball in Groton. Please read the following information carefully as it provides evaluation dates and information that you will need for the upcoming baseball season.

General Information.  The following list presents some key information regarding the 2010 season:
  • We will have 2 Teams on the "Town Ball" League in Westford and Groton.
  • We will have at least 1 team for the Minuteman Travel League.
  • It is possible that we could have an additional Travel Team consisting of only 13 year olds in the Babe Ruth Prep Travel League.  Travel teams are competitive and require a tryout.  We will determine the amount of travel teams after tryout.
  • Player Evaluations will be held on Friday, March 26th, 2010. Please see below for details.
  • We will combine both the Town Ball Evaluations and Travel League Tryouts into one session on one night.
  • Teams will be formed early in April. Practices will start as soon as the fields are open to us. This is usually around the first or second week in April.
  • The season starts around April 25th and continues through into June, ending around the end of the school year.
  • We are looking for volunteers to help with field maintenance.  Please contact us if you are willing to help.  We have a lot of work that needs to be done to the fields this Spring.

All Town Ball and Travel Team Players:

Player evaluations will take place on Friday, March 26th, 2010 from 6-9pm at the Groton School Hockey Rink.  All players for the Town Ball and Travel League must attend this evaluation for the entire time allotted.

About the Town Ball Evaluations and Tryouts for Travel Team:

All players must attend evaluations. For those unfamiliar with evaluations, the players will be put through a series of baseball drills that will expose them to many aspects of the game. The drills include pitching, catching, fielding, hitting and running. The purpose of the evaluations is to provide the coaches with an accurate assessment of the various skill levels of the players. This information is used to draft teams that are as balanced as possible.  For the travel team, we will use this information to choose the travel team players.

What should players wear and bring with them:

Players should wear sneakers (no cleats) and bring their baseball glove and bat and baseball hat if they have one. If you don't have a bat, we will have a selection of bats available for the batting drill. Please do not bring any baseballs. GYBL will provide them for the warmups and drills.

If you signed up to volunteer or coach and can help with the evaluations, please contact me at  .

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at  .
