About Us

Mission & Description

The Groton Youth Baseball League (GYBL) is a not-for-profit organization which strives to provide a safe and healthy environment for all to learn and to grow as individuals and teammates in the game of baseball. The GYBL strives to provide an equal opportunity to play at an appropriate level, without an undue emphasis on winning, and endorses the values of: Sportsmanship, Respect for the Individual, Enjoyment, Integrity, Pursuit of Excellence, Loyalty, and Teamwork.

  • Players, aged five through fifteen, parents, coaches, program leaders and volunteers comprise the GYBL, which is run for the purpose of promoting sportsmanlike competition, team and individual values, and respect for the rules of play in the great game of baseball. An average of 500 children participates in the GYBL to learn baseball and sportsmanship skills in both a recreational and competitive atmosphere.

  • The GYBL is officially a part of the Babe Ruth International and Cal Ripken. We play under the rules implemented by these organizations, as required, but also because these rules improve the sport of baseball.

  • Our players generally live in Groton and Dunstable. Players participate in one of several divisions depending on their age, experience and ability, including: T-ball, Coach Pitch, Cal Ripken Minor, Cal Ripken Major Levels and Babe Ruth. Our teams participate in tournaments played primarily in Massachusetts, but also occasionally throughout New England and the US. Our teams practice at fields in Groton, including Cow Pond, Town Field, Cutler and occasionally Stonebridge.

  • The GYBL is governed completely by volunteers including Board Officers, Coaches, and Committee Members, almost all of whom are parents of players. The GYBL is an independent organization and is funded solely by the membership fees of its participants, by revenues from fundraising, and by the generous support of our corporate sponsors. The GYBL receives no funding from the Town of Groton. We share responsibility for some field maintenance, as it is under the jurisdiction of the Town of Groton, and because the fields are used for other activities. The members of the Board of Directors meet monthly and oversee the GYBL, its Officers, and its committees.

Financing

An annual registration fee  is paid by each child in the program. This fee is used to help defray the cost of equipment, uniforms, insurance, and so forth. Financial assistance is also given through the generous donations of our sponsors, and through fundraising activities. We are a volunteer/not-for-profit organization. In an effort to maintain the high standards we have established for the program over the years, we ask our membership to volunteer their time throughout the season.
